Strauss Excited By Kevin Pietersen Comeback

Monday, 02 November 2009 22:30
England's cricket captain Andrew Strauss is excited by Kevin Pietersen's return to the England squad next week.

The England captain touched down with his team-mates in Bloemfontein yesterday. But there was no Kevin Pietersen because he is recovering from an achilles injury.

The middle-order batsman will link up with his country next Monday and arrive in his native South Africa on Tuesday.

Stauss, whose side have already held their first training session, is looking forward to his return. "I'm genuinely excited about having him back," he told reporters.

"We've missed his quality, we've missed his influence and I also think he's going to come back very refreshed, hungry and motivated."

The England captain has featured in two Ashes series victories but says that for England to beat the South Africans, they will need to play better than they have in the last few years.

The tour begins with two Twenty20 internationals. England also play five one day matches and a four-Test series.

The skipper brushed aside the issue of hostility for four players in the squad. Strauss himself, Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Matt Prior all have South African connections. He added: "I think it's only an issue if you let it affect you".
