Puppy Case Closes

Cambridgeshire Police say they've ended their investigation into the death of a puppy in St Neots.

15-year-old April Alderton had claimed last week that her 10-week-old Jack Russell had been stamped on by a boy in Priory Park last Monday.

However, a medical examination shows the dog most likely died from a virus and showed no signs of injury.

The story led to nearly £3,000 being offered as a reward, made front page news on several national newspapers and also saw a Facebook group formed which attracted 2,500 members.

The statement from Cambridgeshire Police:

Cambridgeshire police have ended their investigation into the death of a puppy at St Neots on October 26 after a detailed veterinary medical examination revealed that it was most likely to have died suddenly from a virus and showed no sign of injury.

Despite an intensive and thorough investigation, police have been unable to locate any other witnesses to an alleged incident in which the puppy was reportedly injured.
